To make an informed decision about who to hire, you should know/ask the following:

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires moving companies provide a written estimate. This estimate must be based on a visual survey of the items being moved unless you waive this requirement in writing before your goods are loaded.

Written estimates must be dated and signed by both the shipper and moving company.

 A verbal quote is not the same as an estimate.

Never sign a BLANK OR INCOMPLETE ESTIMATE.  Movers CAN'T require you to sign an estimate that is blank or is not compltely filled out. Unreputable companies could then change the figures and fees with out your approval or knowledge.

ASK

Are their employees covered by worker's compensation?

Are they bonded?

Do they undergo drug testing?

How long have their employess been working with them?

Is the company licensed with any organizations?
